                    PERSEPHONE

She was not born in the darkness.

Persephone was born in a field, in the endless light of her mother's love, in laughter, in flowers that opened just because she walked past them. She was Spring itself, soft, untouched, believing the world would always be gentle because it always had been.

                       Until it wasn't.

She was gathering flowers when the earth split open. No warning. No choice. The ground that had always held her gave way, and she was stolen. Taken down into a world that had no sun, no spring, no mother calling her name. In an instant, the girl who knew only light was made a resident of the Underworld.

That's the trauma no one talks about. Not just the taking but the after. The way she had to learn how to breathe in a place where nothing grows. The way she had to sit with the silence after screaming and no one came. The way she mourned herself, the girl in the field who died that day, even though her body kept living. Her mother Demeter, mourned so loudly the world stopped growing, and Persephone mourned quietly, underground, learning the language of ghosts.

She was not supposed to survive there.

But she did, she did not just survive, she learned the corridors. She learned the names of the dead. She learned that darkness is not empty, it is full of things that need tending too. She was given a pomegranate a wound, a vow, a choice that was not a choice and its seeds stained her hands red forever. Once you taste both worlds, you can never belong fully to just one again.

               So she became two.

Half the year, she is Spring. She comes back, and the earth blooms because she does. She is soft, floral, crowned in roses.

The other half the year, she is a Queen. She rules the Underworld, not as a prisoner, but as a sovereign. The smoke is hers now. The skeletons bow to her. She is not the girl who was taken, she is the woman who learned to reign where they tried to bury her.

She was stolen into darkness. She crowned herself in spring.

This sweatshirt is for the Persephone in you, for the part of you that was taken from your own field, that had to learn how to make a throne out of the place they left you to die in. You are not just what happened to you. You are what you became after.
