Men came to take from her, they wanted her fruit without knowing her seasons. They called her cold for having boundaries. One god even disguised himself to get past her walls. Trauma made her want to burn the whole orchard down, to stop growing anything, so no one could ever take from her again.

  But Pomona did something different.

She stayed. She nurtured the roots no one could see. She healed the branches that were broken. She grew new fruit over the scars where old fruit was stolen. She learned that thriving wasn't about forgetting the winter  it was about trusting that fall would come again, and she would still be there to harvest it. She is not who hurt her. She is what she grew after. That's why her crown is apples and not gold. That's why she holds a deer and a squirrel close because the softest things survived, too.
