Chapter 2 - And so it begins
She didn't catch fire. She remembered she was fire. They thought they watched her burn. They didn't. They watched her shed. Look at her dress gray, torn, ash. That's not what she wore. That's what was left after they took everything. Friends. Home. Name. The life she thought was hers. It burned off her like cheap fabric.
But look at her skin. Gold cracks.
Not wounds. Her arms, her neck, her face — every place they cracked her. God filled her with gold. So she doesn't hide her scars. She shines through them.
The right eye is pure gold light, because she stopped seeing with pain, and started seeing with purpose. One eye crying, one eye burning.
And her chest, her heart didn't die. It ignited. A glowing gold heart, outlined in light, full of teal stardust, teal is V2W, is healing, is the color of the water that didn't drown her. The heart is floating outside her ribs, because her love is too big to stay inside a broken body. Around her feathers. Teal and gold phoenix feathers. Some falling. Some on fire. Some already burned at the tip but still floating. Because becoming is messy. You lose feathers on the way up. The small flames on her dress and arms they are not consuming her. They are leaving her. Her old self burning off, not burning her down. She is sitting in ash, in watercolor smoke, gray, black, chaos. But she is looking UP. Mouth slightly open, like she just took her first breath after being underwater for years.
This is not the rise. This is before the rise.
This is The Ignition.
The moment right before the phoenix decides to fly when she realizes:
I am not what happened to me.
I am not the ash I'm sitting in.
I am not the dress they tore.
I am the gold in the crack.
I am the heart that still lights up.
I am the eye that still sees.
And so it begins.
